Vocabulary about Hospitals

In the IELTS exam, you could be asked a question related to health and for that it might be useful to know some language related to hospitals. To be honest, hospitals are not often raised in this sort of test because they can be a controversial or triggering topic, but certainly they do occasionally come up. Also, it’s worth knowing key vocabulary in case you find yourself in a situation where you need to visit a hospital in the English-speaking world.

First of all, here is a video about hospital vocabulary:

In the video, I explain lots of words and I divide them into categories:

  1. Parts of a hospital
  2. People in a hospital
  3. Verbs related to hospitals

I try to avoid the basic stuff, such as “doctor” and “nurse” because to be honest if you don’t know these then you are a long way from even considering IELTS. Instead, I look at words such as “dermatologist” and “scrubs.” These are less common but still quite useful.

Here’s an example of a part of the video that contains some useful vocabulary about hospitals:

This is related to the wider topic of health.
